But before I fully launch this post, something that all of our grade 12 readers are thinking about, let us first apologise for not posting! We have been really inactive lately with all of the instagram and posts and photos... We are just so ridiculously busy. For those who don't know, I, Chelsea, work a full time job and full time university course, not to mention the hours spent on public transport! And with the recent influx of assignments I'm just casually descending into impending doom and stress that #cadetlyf and #unilyf is gladly bestowing upon me.
So back to formal shenanigans!
Both Yanni and I feel as though all girls hype formal up wayyy too much for what it is. Everyone stresses and freaks out excessively for what is supposed to be an amazing night! I think as perfectionists we want everything to go according to plan. Big Mistake. As Murphy's Law states; what can happen, will happen... or at least something along the lines of that. If its forecast to rain, assume its going to bucket, like it so happened last year...
We have 11 tips, tricks and advice to bestow upon ye formal virgins.
1. Formal is actually lots of fun, BUT it goes by so quickly, so make the most of it. Arrive on time or early! Yanni and all her friends arrived late due to weather and they missed out on the arrivals, seeing teachers and the entree!
2. This might seem like a contradiction to our first tip, but don't stress it if you don't arrive on time. No one actually cares about the arrival. Seriously, its dark outside, everyone is inside and limos are so expensive for a 20 minute trip. Not to mention its bloody crowded. I took a minibus, it was spacious, had extra seats, was bloody cheap and not to mention we made the main photo spread for the 2014 formal collage in the year book.
3. Everyone is worried and concerned about they way they themselves look, so chances that they are not really paying attention to what others wear. #divas #factoflife
4. Shoes, I mean come on, really? You aren't even going to see them! If you're tall? Well aren't you lucky! Seriously though, I bought my shoes from Kmart. I also can't stress enough about bringing a pair of foldable flats if it is raining on the day, you do not want to get those heels wet! They also prove to be lifesavers when you get jiggy on the dancefloor.
5. Makeup and hair preparation. You have to set yourself a budget and stick to it. If you can get a friend to do it, great! Money in the bank and friends get to leave their creative flair on your face (:
6. Put heaps of hairspray. You want your hair to stay in place when you're jumping about fist pumpin' the night away. Funny story though, my hair was this updo thing and omgoodness when I took all 53 something bobby pins out.... I looked like I had an Abba afro. Yeah not a pretty sight. Good thing I took it out AFTER post.
7. Dancing at formal is really sweaty. Like really.
8. Take all of your good photos at pre-formal when the lighting is still good, chances are the formal photographers are going to make you stand in an awkward position and make you smile with way too much teeth. So get a good photographer for your pre and just get the minimum at formal.
9. Don't go overboard with the budget. Come on ladies! It's one night only, and honestly every one looks absolutely gorgeous you spend half the time just saying how amazing everyone looks and I know people who spent next to nothing and still looked fricken amazing! I was pretty happy that I got my dress for $120, my hair for $40 and did my own makeup.
10. Having a date doesn't mean a lot. Its one night, you take a few photos with them, they give you a corsage and thats the end of it. Unless you are actually taking your partner. In the end no one thinks about the whole date thing. Take a friend is what I say.
And lastly,
11. Have a good night out. Its the last time you will collectively be with all of your school mates and so really cherish the evening. Also, it makes for a really good post-formal party too.
Actually... I missed something.
12. Eyebrows MUST be on fleek.
Thank you all for reading! Yanni and I will show you a few photos from the night cause we are just reliving them mems after seeing numerous Facebook posts of other schools. Ah the feels.
